There is an old Japanese saying that the nail that sticks up must be hammered down. I figure this is an attitude that needs a good hammering way, way down.
There is a lot of good that comes from people being willing to conform and to adhere to popular sanctions, but anyone here in Bloggerland knows the penalties that go with being an individual, taking the risk of standing out, and saying, "Over here, look at me, listen to my story."
