Chance or Reason?

Charlene says that everything happens for a reason. I'm not so sure. In fact, I don't think so although I would *like* for it to be true.

I believe that things happen as a consequence of what we do, but also happen randomly, out of chaos, not out of any reason.

What I would like to see is evidence -- personal evidence -- that things have happened for you or to you out of some sort of plan.

Or are we never to know the reason?

Is every bad thing *meant* to happen to us? Is every good thing a result of fate and not our own efforts?

If I find an old lost letter, was there a reason for me finding it? If I am prevented from going to a party because of the weather, was there a reason for it? I've Googled this topic: It is full of sites that answer Yes as well as No. No one knows. But what do you believe?

I can't say I have a cogent answer to your question, but I find it interesting to think about. Beyond looking back and seeing how one thing led to another bringing one result or another I'm not sure I have the ability to determine the reason for things. Like you, I would like to believe that everything happens for a reason.

Frankie Laine sang a great song in the 1950s: There must be a reason why...
Set me thinking again!

Fate, luck, chance - take your pick, but a reason? Who knows?
Life is often so very cruel; we are hurt so painfully at times.

What is the 'reason' for this? Is it some sort of punishment, even when we've led a blameless life?

On balance I have to say that life and all that happens during it is beyond reason and thus I just go for fate.
